On Saturday, June 24, we attended The Great Granville Garage Sale, which benefits the Licking County Coalition for Housing. On the way, our first stop was at the Raccoon International Golf Club grounds, where Sister Salvage & Soles had plenty of items available for purchase under their canopy and tent and spread nicely along the lawn near the parking lot upon arrival. We picked up two fencing swords and a fencing helmet for a fair price after friendly negotiations. We enjoyed talking with one of the owners, who has an infectious excitement for all things salvage. Afterward, we quickly strolled through the Granville Farmers’ Market, which appeared vast, but we were in a hurry to get to “The Great Granville Garage Sale”.

Centenary United Methodist Church was our first stop in the GGGS lineup. It was quite the treasure chest of a room full of unique items and one cannot find a better deal when no prices are marked and the “donations only” motto is set. All of the money at this fundraiser was going toward supporting their youth group on a mission trip. We found a plethora of wonderful items like glassware, books, a bowling ball, jewelry, and Holiday items; we look forward to stopping here again next year! Just across the street on the lawn of the St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, we found loads of fantastic deals on fine china and 1950’s Melmac sets at the Licking County Coalition for Housing canopy tent. How cool was it that everything we purchased there went directly to LCCH?! Of course, we stopped at Alfie’s Granville for a delicious lunch alfresco in their pleasant courtyard. We ordered Mr. Tea and The Alex sandwiches, beat salad with fetta, parsley, and pecans, rosemary lemonade, and a Blondie for dessert. Directly after lunch, we took a stroll through the garage sales in the neighborhood and if the sellers had LCCH jars at their tables, the profits went to LCCH.

At this point, our car was fully loaded with our “new to us” items, we were not able to make it to Raccoon Valley Park and some other locations on the GGGS map. However, we did stop in at the Sister Salvage & Soles shop on our drive heading out of Granville. Antiques and shoes abound in this airy shop located with doors raised up allowing one to feel like time is being spent simply hanging on the porch getting to peruse old stuff. The atmosphere and friendly owners provide for a delightful atmosphere. What a great time on a Saturday afternoon in Granville, Ohio!

T’was a perfect May weather morning and afternoon for our first visit to the annual VINTAGE DAYS located at the Hartford Fairgrounds in Croton, OH. While we were hoping to see more antiques available, it was pleasant to look over the old clocks, cameras, and other miscellaneous items. The most unique item we discovered was a structure made of twigs, which had the ability to expand and collapse. It was designed with a similar form to an outdoor garden stool without the seat (both ends consisting of empty space). Many additional items were either handcrafted or reproductions of vintage style items.

We took home some found treasures along with some gifts for others: blueberry floating candles and wax melts (better deals than we could find online), a rabbit figurine made from a book (aka: book bunny), a little mouse made of pages from a book, and a wooden quote carved plaque with a stand. We were both imagining this event to consist of more vendors spreading across more of the grounds, but we still enjoyed our time. A humorous tidbit, as we were leaving, it took us a while to locate the car, so we have made a mental note to pay attention to parking numbers on our next venture to VINTAGE DAYS.

Lunch was next on our list, as we were hungry. None of the food trucks available at the event were appealing to us, so we decided to eat for the first time at Ghostwriter Public House in Johnstown, OH, as it was on our way home. The veggie burger made with quinoa and chicken sandwich, each served with freshly cut fries, were our entree selections. The proportions were just right to fill us up and we both were very happy with our tasty meals.

Still in Johnstown, again, for our first time, we visited Baker’s Acres in Johnstown. It’s the most vast & healthy greenhouse we’ve ever visited. The hanging basket we purchased is three times bigger than any competitors’ options, and makes many other location’s flowers look pitiful for the price of $30.00 (the same price as many competitors, but of a much higher quality). We took home a couple of additional lovely plants, making our patio and backyard space more alive with their beautiful natural elements. What a delightful day!

Pleasant Rainy Afternoon in Columbus!

Just a short trip to Columbus made for a pleasant rainy Saturday afternoon.  Our first stop was at Heritage Square Antiques on Bryce Road, where rows of antiques provide a plethora of opportunities to go down memory lane and encourage learning experiences on times past.  One also may be inspired with home creative home decor and unique finds.  We picked up Parker Brother’s “Masterpiece” board game and the JAWS soundtrack on 8 track.  We were pleased to hear such a clear crisp sound with this 8 track purchase!

Used Kids Records located on Summit St. was our next destination; a fun place to look for a variety of new and used records.  We were especially impressed with their selection of soundtracks!  They even provide the option to give records a listen.  Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger” & John Carpenter’s “They Live” soundtrack came home with us.  We enjoyed some graffiti art next door as we were leaving too.

Working in an early dinner at Condado on N. High St., we enjoyed some tacos with a wide selection of protein, toppings, and dressings.  This made for a tasty and light meal.  Spotting Lost Weekend Records just across the street from Condado’s, we ventured on visiting this inviting store who’s owner, Kyle, was most helpful and offered interesting and engaging conversation.  Goblin’s “Suspiria” soundtrack, Route 66 themes, and two Rod Stewart albums were vinyls we chose to snatch up at this enjoyable twenty years in the business shop with records in good condition!  Antiques, tacos, and vinyl were a great way to spend a rainy afternoon in Columbus, Ohio.
